Particle Ray

Does it feel good? To understand this question is to get where Allec Johnson, Particle Ray, is coming from. It’s a question asked every time he works on a song or plays the next record for an audience. Once the music feels good people begin to listen to what you have to say.

Jersey born. Philly situated. Has a father who Djed and a mother with great musical taste. He was raised on a healthy diet of Prince, Teena Marie, Anita Baker, Kraftwerk, YMO, and early house, hip hop, and funk. P. Ray avoided his parents music like the plague until he heard The Chemical Brothers “Block Rockin’ Beats.” The dance music bug hit. In the summer of 1999 P. Ray began “making” music on the family PC and soon after asking the old man about how to spin some records. *His father mentions he would tell him different mixes to try when P. Ray could barely reach the turntables*

P. Ray’s DJing directly influences everything he creates. It aids in discovering connections between things most people won't see. He does this while keeping in mind: what is the narrative and does your body react before your brain has to tells you “it’s dope?” Does it feel good?
