Powerful vibes of Latin Jazz. Orquesta Akokan is a contemporary group but for this album recorded in Havana’s legendary Egrem Studios. Bridging that studio’s history of descarga into a contemporary flow is captured on 16 Rayos. An effortless mixture of wonderful jazzy scoundscapes on saxophone and trump accompanied by lush percussion, bass and piano. Little hints of vocals here and there but mainly an instrumental offering. A nice addition to Daptone catalogue.
