With the end of Summer upon us, I thought I'd make a mix that sorta gives us a chance to reflect on the season and enjoy these last few beautiful warm sunsets. From rooftops, pools and porches all over the world, we've enjoyed the company of old friends, made new acquaintances, fell in love and had great food and drinks. The trio has been celebrated by the likes of Prince, ?uestlove and NPR; Ebony Magazine has called them "the next soul outfit to rock the crown." Indeed, they've been an inspiration to us since they first made waves in 2011, and we're thrilled to be sharing the stage with them.

BlackStar Film Festival 2014
The 2nd Annual Blackstar Film Festival hits Philly on August 1st with a fresh crop of films and events for 2013. The fest is set to illuminate black cinema and the individuals creating it for the second year in a row, placing the spotlight on everyone from writers and directors to producers, cinematographers and more. The festival kicks off with a focus on black men, including Little Black Boy Wonder – a dedication to Trayvon Martin – and Question Bridge: Black Males. The festival hailed by Ebony Magazine as the “Black Sundance” will host its first-ever screenplay competition, including a live reading of scripts juried by celebrity judges; Black Thought will be seated on the panel which also includes Dorian Missick and Lisa Cortes. The Howard University Film Program will be honored for excellence in training industry professionals. The festival spearheaded by Maori Karmael Holmes will feature films from emerging and established directors, addressing a host of topics concerning communities of color over the course of four days.
Official events include film screenings, industry workshops, panel conversations, live music, receptions and parties. The festival has doubled in size since last year’s inaugural fest, featuring 75 films and a few premieres; Wangechi Mutu‘s The End of Eating Everything will be amongst the festival debuts. The festival will also feature a special screening of Yelling To The Sky, followed by a Q&A with actors Yolanda Rossand Black Thought as well as Zakee Kuduro – the man behind the film’s dynamic score. Films range in format from features to documentaries, shorts and music video presentations. The majority of the screenings this year will be held at the International House. The Barnes Foundation, Drexel University and a few smaller venues will be hosting the remainder of the events. Eilon Paz’s 416-page coffee-table book illuminates over 130 vinyl connoisseurs and their collections in the most intimate of environments— their record rooms. With a foreword by the RZA, compelling photographic essays are paired with in-depth interviews to illustrate what motivates record collectors to keep digging.
Readers get an up close and personal look at a variety of well-known vinyl champions as well as a glimpse into the collections of world-renowned and lesser-known DJs, producers, record dealers, and everyday enthusiasts. The book is divided into two main parts: the first features 250 full-page photos framed by captions and select quotes, while the second consists of 12 full-length interviews that delve deeper into collectors’ personal histories and vinyl troves.
It all started out several years ago as nothing more than a way for photographer Paz to engage in a personal project in his free time. Adrift in Brooklyn after emigrating from Israel, Paz—a record collector on the side—thought it might be fun to start taking photos of people whose record collections were both larger and weirder than his own. These portraits turned into the Dust & Grooves website, which quickly developed a global following that grew every time a new portrait was added to the mix. People all over the world seemed to dig not only the beauty of Eilon’s photos, but the interviews with the collectors—a motley, if generally charming, crew of non-violent obsessives who turned out to be at least as intriguing as the records they collected.

45 FLAVORS is a new event crafted via Record Breakin' Music's DJ Junior & DJ Phaze. We wanted to throw a feel good party that everyone could attend. Since we are holding the event in Baltimore it was only fitting to get the homie DJ Stylus - The Vibe Conductor involved and make it a family affair.
Expect to hear an eclectic mix of SOULFUL music. That is essentially any genre we want as long as it's soulful (funk, jazz, boogie, hip hop, latin, afro beat, world vibes, etc.) We will be doing this with ALL VINYL.

In the theme of sound traveling, for this installment of the Sound Traveler series I decided to pull some music I’m particularly fond of at the moment from a few different genres, including house, soul, boogie, hip-hop and jazz to name a few… Some songs are old and some are new. Some tracks are from vinyl and others are from digital sources. Some will be familiar and others may not be so familiar. Some may make you want to dance and others may make you want to chill out.
